About Us
Kakadu is a family business. Our family story began in 1972, when Lea, her brother and their mum set up in Sydney making gear for other people. Cut, make and trim work for the Australian Army, Qantas, the Australian Antarctic Division and Levi's. Gear that had to hold up, Antarctica included.
Eventually we put that know-how to work under our own name. More than 50 years on, we're still family-run and still in Sydney, and the family's still keeping a close eye on every hat that leaves the place.
What we make here, and what we don't
Our Australian Made hats and belts are made in our own Sydney factory. We also design clothing, bags and accessories that are made overseas to our specs. We'd rather tell you that straight than let a flag on the label do the talking.
What we care about
Gear that gets used. Materials with some guts to them: leather, kangaroo leather, oilskin, canvas and felt. Things that work first and look good doing it. If it ends up scratched, faded and covered in a few years of dust, it's done its job.
